[00:49:37] wagnerrp: (unless youre using ubuntu)
[00:51:36] greenwom: I am using ubuntu – I killed the backend and reran the setup. Still can't select ASTC (not an option) and can't scan for channels
[00:52:00] wagnerrp: you are adding it as a DVB tuner, not an NTSC tuner?
[00:53:21] greenwom: sorry, don't unnderstand the question, This is an ASTC tuner
[00:53:29] greenwom: love to be educated
[00:53:51] wagnerrp: not quite, its an ATSC tuner, and all digital tuners in linux are handled by the DVB subsystem
[00:54:01] maddslacker: if settings and coverart don't save in the frontend, which directory should I check write permissions on?
[00:54:25] wagnerrp: when you added the card (or usb box in this case), you should have added it as a DVB tuner
[00:54:39] wagnerrp: maddslacker: local or storage group content?
[00:54:55] maddslacker: local
[00:55:06] greenwom: ok changed it to a DVB tuner in setup.. still can't scan (is a restart required?
[00:55:31] wagnerrp: then it will be in whatever directories you defined in the video setup in the frontend settings
[00:55:42] maddslacker: hmm
[00:55:43] ** maddslacker pokes around **
[00:55:50] wagnerrp: or if you have not defined such directories, it will fall back to the base video directory

[00:56:02] iamlindoro: wagnerrp, only for SG images
[00:56:14] wagnerrp: greenwom: and you linked your source to the new card input?

[00:57:52] maddslacker: wagnerrp, looks like a mysql issue, and I can't be bothered to fix it on this machine

[00:58:41] maddslacker: agreed
[00:58:59] maddslacker: when I played around with a usb tuner I bought, worst I had to do was unplug it and plug it back in
[00:59:07] wagnerrp: if its a mysql issue, mythfrontend should just outright not work
[00:59:23] maddslacker: I thought that too
[00:59:29] maddslacker: but it seems to be specific things

[01:10:33] wagnerrp: youve walked through all the steps?
[01:10:50] wagnerrp: added the tuner card, added a source for the tuner card, bound the source to the particular input you want?

[01:12:31] wagnerrp: a 'source' is an abstract concept of your content source
[01:12:40] wagnerrp: in your case, it would probably be 'broadcast channels'
[01:12:55] wagnerrp: the source contains the list of channels
[01:13:10] wagnerrp: and can be bound to multiple tuners, generally all tuners attached to that antenna

[08:49:44] zetheroo: I would just like to know about this kind of thing in general as I deem this a pretty important issue with some software out there in the open source domain ... the need for proper and full (as possible) disclosure on the workings of the program
[08:49:45] Hoxzer: depends. If you use packages from ubuntu repostories then it's the ubuntu team is responsible. If you use the source then it's MythTV that's responsible. However there is no guarantee so actually you can't really sue anybody :)
[08:50:23] AndyCap: I'd say writing startup scripts, making sure it is well integrated in the distro and has a sane config to match the rest of the system falls squarely on the distros shoulders

[08:52:09] AndyCap: zetheroo: starting daemon/backgroud processes without registering them as logged in users in wtmp or whatever policykit checks is an excercise for the distro

[09:32:14] Jay2k1: hi there
[09:32:56] Jay2k1: i am using DefaultStartOffset and DefaultEndOffset and found a bug, I think, or perhaps I am doing something wrong
[09:33:12] tmkt: yeah...they are set for DTS and 5.1
[09:33:17] Jay2k1: I have set it to start recording 2 minutes early and end recordings 5 minutes late
[09:33:53] tmkt: worked fine with 0.22...0.23 passthrough doesn't seem to be passthroughing
[09:34:06] Jay2k1: now when scheduling a recording from mythweb, these values are in the appropriate fields, everything's cool
[09:34:43] Jay2k1: but when I schedule a recording from within the frontend on my tv, it takes the DefaultStartOffset value for both start early and finish late
[09:35:22] Jay2k1: meaning it would start 2 minutes early and end 2 minutes late, although I set it to start 2 minutes early and end 5 mins late in the preferences
[09:35:23] wagnerrp: tmkt: you have to set your speaker configuration to 5.1, turn off upconvert, and check both DD and DTS under 'audio processing capabilities'
[09:36:00] Jay2k1: to be sure i changed the start offset from 2 to 3 in the prefs and voila, in the frontend, when scheduling a record, it had "3" in both fields
[09:36:11] tmkt: yeah..those are my exact settings
[09:36:27] Jay2k1: anyone experienced this problem too? using mythtv 0.22 (mythbuntu)
[09:36:37] wagnerrp: are you sure the source is actually 5.1?

[09:36:55] wagnerrp: maybe you have multiple audio tracks and youre pulling the wrong one?

[09:56:31] sphery: Jay2k1: what distro? what repos? what SVN revision are you running, now (use mythbackend --version to find out)?
[09:57:25] sphery: Jay2k1: that particular fix is 8 weeks old, so if your repo is lacking that fix, then the packager isn't keeping up at all
[09:58:11] sphery: to the point that in our 4-month release cycle, you'd see at most one update per release (meaning you'll always have a broken Myth)
[09:58:40] sphery: and if that's the case, you might want to consider switching to a more Myth-friendly distro (like Mythbuntu) that keeps up with the fixes
[09:58:41] Jay2k1: using mythbuntu 9.10 karmic, default karmic repos, rev 22594, branches/release-0-22-fixes
[09:59:11] sphery: you're using the pre-release, not 0.22 version they put in just so they could get 0.22-fixes into Karmic
[09:59:36] sphery: You need to enable the repo that has the current 0.22-fixes branch. I don't know how. Someone using *buntu could tell you.
[10:00:23] sphery: #mythbuntu likely has someone who could help you enable the repo to get it. Just make sure you don't enable the trunk repo if you don't want to upgrade to trunk (it's a one-way path, so once you do, you're stuck on trunk until 0.23).
[10:01:33] Jay2k1: yeah, I wouldn't want to do that, I've just spent three weeks or so until it was running fine ;)
[10:01:46] tmkt: wagnerrp: should i be able to see useful info in the logs?
[10:02:01] Jay2k1: but thank you very much for this advice, it's a huge point forward
[10:03:22] sphery: Jay2k1: upgrading from broken-0.21-plus-some-changes to 0.22-fixes will not break anything, so you should still do that
[10:03:32] sphery: just don't do a trunk upgrade and things will work great.
[10:03:39] sphery: (much better than they do now)
[10:04:09] sphery: (where broken-0.21-plus-some-changes is the pre 0.22 version that's in the default *buntu install)

[18:48:45] wagnerrp: that includes ripped blurays

[18:49:14] ** Beirdo rips a blueray in half **
[18:49:23] klk: ouch
[18:49:24] wagnerrp: that does not include video encoded poorly, with every option turned on just because the transcoder thought it was cool to do so
[18:49:54] klk: i'll mainly be using it to playback recordings from my HDhomerun and one or two HD-PVR's once I get them set up
[18:50:00] wagnerrp: uncompressed 720p60 is going to be nearing the practical limits of the PCI bus
[18:50:13] wagnerrp: that means you cannot do software decoding, and pass the uncompressed video onto the card
[18:50:34] wagnerrp: you can send the compressed video onto the card, because the highest bitrate content you will ever see would be bluray at ~5MB/s
[18:50:35] klk: yeah, but the whole idea is to have the card do the decoding, right?
[18:51:10] klk: so it sounds like my old FE shouldn't really have problems with the way I plan to use it

[18:54:47] slickrick: hi. i'm having some weirdness with jamu. when i run it with -MIV it never goes interactive, it just skips through my collection without prompting.
[18:54:48] slickrick: all my videos are named according to the imdb 'tt' id (ie tt0000000.iso) but jamu always says "themoviedb.com does not recognize the movie (tt0000000) – Cannot update metadata – skipping"
[18:54:52] slickrick: any ideas?
[18:55:09] slickrick: it was going interactive previously but not anymore.

[18:55:52] slickrick: btw, searching themoviedb.org with the tt id yields the correct results.
[18:55:53] oobe: slickrick, there is no need to name movies by there imdb number
[18:56:04] oobe: infact you should expect it to not work
[18:56:34] RDV_Linux: slickrick: Your naming convention is not supported by MythVideo so when jamu searches for a movie to list is does not find anything and therefore skips it.
[18:57:07] slickrick: oobe: okay ... so if i have a huge collection i have imported is there any work around. this is what i was using with the old metadata program.
[18:57:19] slickrick: dang ... okay will need to go back and rework this.
[18:57:56] oobe: you need to rename the files to the proper names if you can think of an easy way to do it then thats your best bet
[18:58:04] slickrick: can i insert the inetref manually and expect it to work? instead of renaming all the file names, which means I would need to get my dvds out of storage.
[18:58:20] RDV_Linux: slickrick: A IMDB search on TMDB works but Jamu is using a name search when the Video's videmetadata record does not have a TMDB or IMDB number.
[18:58:59] slickrick: RDV_Linux: okay that makes sense. my old naming scheme seemed to work great for the old metadata tool but not jamu.
[18:59:32] RDV_Linux: slickrick: Yes Jamu looks for the inetref first and only parses the filename when one does not exist.
[18:59:54] slickrick: where does the inetref field in the videometadata table come from? Will populating this field manually/programatically help jamu?
[19:00:52] slickrick: and if choose to leave it as is, any ideas why jamu doesn't go interactive despite the -I command? it did before, but then I cleaned out all my mythvideo tables to start fresh and it has not worked since.
[19:02:03] RDV_Linux: slickrick: Yes once populated jamu can do the rest of the work with the "-M ". As far as changed behaviour of Jamu I cannot remember when it reacted differently but I did revamp interactive mode in trunk.

[19:06:11] RDV_Linux: slickrick: spare time? The inetref is the field in the videometadata table that stored an IMDB/TMDB or TVDB number. In your case a IMDB number.

[20:32:31] mzb: k
[20:32:40] oobe: there is a script that fixes it
[20:32:48] wagnerrp: not specific to any theme
[20:33:37] mzb: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/8034
[20:33:39] mzb: hehe
[20:33:51] mzb: not any theme? that's a neat trick
[20:33:56] ** mzb reads the ticket **
[20:34:26] mzb: ah
[20:34:47] ** mzb updates blue-abstract **
[20:35:08] mazda01: it must have been due to deleting the recordings through mythweb and they just didn't get deleted yet. i noticed they were all recordings i just clicked on delte in mythweb less than 10 minutes ago.
[20:35:34] wagnerrp: recordings deleted through mythweb behave exactly the same as recordings deleted through the frontend
[20:36:21] wagnerrp: in both cases, it doesnt do anything on its own
[20:36:28] wagnerrp: it just issues a delete command to the backend
[20:36:44] gbee: mzb: some non-backwards compatible changes were made which broke themes, it was unfortunately necessary and unavoidable but done now so that we could hopefully avoid similar breakage in the future
[20:37:27] mzb: nm, it's all good
[20:37:44] mzb: thanks gbee ... doesn't worry me :)
[20:41:13] jolaren: Except for beeing able to jump forward and backwards in live tv what makes Mythtv better then Kaffeine?
[20:42:29] gbee: for livetv?
[20:42:34] mazda01: wagnerrp, well within mythfrontend, i went to backend status and then auto expire list, found them marked as deleted, i don't think i have ever noticed that when i delete recordings through mythweb that they didn't get deleted
[20:43:42] jolaren: gbee: I guess anytihng, kaffeine can record programs to.. right?
[20:44:12] wagnerrp: on a schedule?
[20:44:51] jolaren: I thought so, but then again I've only installed Kaffeine and used it for a few mins
[20:47:18] mzb: jolaren: mythtv is (generally) best as a dedicated (set of) machine(s) [imo]
[20:47:42] mzb: ie: mythtv is almost a set of applications as opposed to a single one
[20:48:02] jolaren: Thanks for the clarifications
[20:48:05] mzb: or a "complete solution" as opposed to an application
[20:48:36] mzb: I suspect the devs have a better|different interpretation, but ^^ works for me
[20:48:45] awalls (awalls!~andy@02-147.155.popsite.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[20:49:07] gbee: jolaren: for occassional use on a desktop, kaffeine et al might suite some, mythtv is a dedicated media centre, designed to be used on purpose built machines connected to TVs, projectors etc, it's distributed architecture means that you can record with one box and watch on any TV in the house with multiple frontends etc
[20:49:26] hachi: crap, need new firmware
[20:49:29] hachi: hate this game
[20:49:35] jolaren: I have my box connected to a projector
[20:49:44] jolaren: I tested Kaffeine because I can't get all my channels to work
[20:50:01] mzb: ie: I don't reckon Kaffeine would could do this: http://www.users.on.net/~marcusbrutus/mythtv/ . . . loungetv.jpg
[20:50:12] jolaren: and I love Mythv for several reasons, I just wish I wouldn't have choosen a dvb-t subscribtion
[20:50:19] mzb: (and be completely controlled with a wii-remote;)
[20:50:25] jolaren: Because from what I've understand you don't need modules and cams etc to view dvb-c
[20:50:43] mzb: I have 4x dvb-t
[20:50:49] mzb: (.tas.au)
[20:50:50] wagnerrp: think of it this way.... mythtv is an appliance, kaffeine is an application
[20:51:03] wagnerrp: jolaren: you generally do need CAMs to record DVB-C
[20:51:05] jolaren: Do you have encrypted channels in australia?
[20:51:13] mzb: not on FTA
[20:51:25] gbee: mythtv also a feature set that no other media players can match (not even going to try and list them all)
[20:51:27] mzb: there are on DVB-S
[20:51:31] jolaren: I'm just stoked about all the hassle

[20:52:09] jolaren: I mean as it is now I'm so annoyed.
[20:52:16] wagnerrp: i mean ours used to look identical to that
[20:52:19] jolaren: I can't view the channels I pay for, such a waste.
[20:52:33] wagnerrp: had a different actual fireplace
[20:52:42] mzb: ah
[20:52:43] wagnerrp: but the stone like that, and the wood mantle
[20:52:47] wagnerrp: looked identical
[20:53:10] mzb: my chimney is now essentially the conduit for the cables going to the screen & hifi ;)
[20:53:37] mzb: oh, and the power point (behind the LCD)

[20:54:44] mzb: (and sealed with silicon)
[20:55:16] jolaren: and why is it prohibited to discuss teh cam module? i mean I can't watch the channels i pay for without it
[20:55:33] wagnerrp: you can talk about CAMs all you want
[20:55:42] wagnerrp: you cannot talk about softCAMs, or card sharing
[20:56:19] wagnerrp: as in 95% of use cases, they exist to steal television
[20:56:29] jolaren: Oh, I am not intressted in cardsharing. I just want to use my Boxer subscribtion with my card to make it work with my computer
[20:57:18] jolaren: I don't even know where to start.

[21:00:13] jolaren: spritch du deutsch?
[21:00:41] kormoc: #mythtv-de
[21:00:58] jolaren: Sorry, verboten is a german word. I googled it now and I see that it's also an English adjective
[21:01:01] jolaren: I'm not german.
[21:01:17] wagnerrp: its not english
[21:01:23] gbee: jolaren: I don't know much about which encryptions schemes can be used with hardware cams, but do you know which one Boxer use? NDS/NAgra/Other?
[21:01:32] wagnerrp: its just one of those cross language terms that other peoples have picked up

[21:04:16] kormoc: the s-mor-gas-board totally seems american given the food it typically applies to
[21:04:28] gbee: apparently verboten does appear in the OED, making it officially part of the English language
[21:04:44] wagnerrp: i know a couple swedes
[21:04:55] kormoc: are they chefs? Bork bork brok
[21:05:03] wagnerrp: ill be driving to lunch, and one of them gets a call and starts talking in swedish

[21:05:53] wagnerrp: i swear it sounds like gibberish
[21:06:05] wagnerrp: there is no other language ive ever heard that sounds more foreign to my ear
[21:06:43] jolaren: swedes also have easy to adapt to new langauge, most swedes livin abroad handles the language in question flawlessly
[21:06:48] kormoc: wagnerrp: luckily you've never heard me speak English :P
[21:07:03] wagnerrp: yeah, they speak flawless english
[21:07:06] highzeth: jolaren: lies, swedes cant handle a english accent ;P

[21:07:14] jolaren: highzeth: i'd care to disagree tho
[21:07:15] wagnerrp: which makes it even weirder when they break into swedish
[21:07:19] gbee: to me a lot of german sounds like English with a strong accent, you can pick up the general drift of what is being said, the spelling however is alien
[21:07:30] hachi: mythtv is labelling my channels as "UNKNOWN 68#1" and things like that
[21:07:37] iamlindoro: helps that English is Germanic
[21:07:44] jolaren: gbee: tho swedes dont have that german clingin sound in their vocabulary

[21:08:16] hachi: restart the whole system, where are these channel callsigns coming from
[21:08:16] kormoc: hachi: because UNKNOWN is a string you can set in mythfrontend's settings
[21:08:19] hachi: not the database
[21:08:28] hachi: where in the frontend?
[21:08:38] gbee: hachi: that's how it automatically labels channels which are missing a name or callsign, or both
[21:08:49] hachi: I've assigned both a channel and a callsigh
[21:09:00] hachi: it flashes the channel number in the upper left when I cahnge channels
[21:09:11] hachi: and the channel editor has it shown correctly all around
[21:09:19] kormoc: channel number has nothing to do with name or callsign
[21:09:20] gbee: name and callsign, two non-numeric fields
[21:09:37] hachi: okay, I've filled in both of them as well
[21:09:39] hachi: let me look again
[21:10:07] hachi: I have an xmlid, channel number, callsign, and name
[21:10:09] hachi: all filled in
[21:10:28] kormoc: maybe there's more then one?
[21:10:48] mzb: oooh .. menu entries with subtitles ... pretty!
[21:11:07] jolaren: I'm watchin Boondock saints ll as we speak
[21:11:08] hachi: hmmm, okay...
[21:11:17] jolaren: I've been waitin for this movie for 10 years
[21:11:17] hachi: also I can't get mythtv to use this backend for recording anything
[21:11:21] jolaren: and so-far it BLOWS.
[21:11:21] wagnerrp: didnt even know that was coming out
[21:11:28] hachi: it just worked earlier today
[21:11:30] jolaren: wagnerrp: came yesterday I believe
[21:11:42] hachi: I can watch live tV on it, but it won't resolve anything to be on those channels
[21:11:46] kormoc: it came out in theaters a few months ago
[21:12:10] mzb: hachi: sounds like your grabber is misconfigured (or similar)
[21:12:18] hachi: what's the grabber?
[21:12:32] jolaren: kormoc: not all of us residences in the us :P
[21:12:58] kormoc: jolaren: well, wagnerrp is, and thus my statement is a correction for your info to him :P
[21:13:20] jolaren: buhuh I want to watch tv3, kanal5 and my channels
[21:13:27] jolaren: since I started with mythtv I can't have it any other way
[21:14:08] jolaren: What options are there if you want a subscribtion without cam modules etc
[21:14:34] jolaren: I can choose from dvb-t or dvb-c
[21:14:45] mzb: hachi: by "grabber" I mean the script that gets the programme data for _your_ area
[21:15:16] hachi: k
[21:15:36] hachi: after I edit channels do I need to run mythfilldatabase?
[21:15:50] hachi: cause these are all channels that are already loaded (different backend records from the same source)
[21:16:42] mzb: mythweb would be any easy way to find out (easier to visualise)

[21:17:07] hachi: mythweb doesn't distinguish whether it is listing a channel/program based on one input or another though
[21:17:25] hachi: so I can't say... tell if 'channel 6' is working on a particular input
[21:17:33] hachi: only that it is working on any input
[21:17:35] wagnerrp: if you just change their names? no... if you change the xmltvids, yes
[21:17:41] hachi: ahh, okay
[21:17:46] jolaren: wagnerrp: If it's a plug in the wall.. DO i need a card for that? (I mean a CI module) or something like that
[21:17:49] hachi: that's the issue then
[21:17:53] gbee: jolaren: I've not seen the film, but according to imdb comments it gets a little better towards the end, even if overall it's not a great film
[21:18:19] wagnerrp: jolaren: that depends on your cable provider
[21:18:22] wagnerrp: i couldnt say
[21:18:25] gbee: I'm not sure I've seen the original either, but I've seen so many films that it's all a blur

[21:21:56] clever: frogonwheels: forcing a reschedule, which happens on backend startup also
[21:22:15] frogonwheels: clever: which makes sense.
[21:22:35] clever: the schedule isnt stored in the db, its only in the master backend's RAM

[22:19:00] [R]: lol
[22:19:10] Geminizer: true... is there a way to interface such a transmitter to a linux box then use software to control the RF transmitter?
[22:19:43] wagnerrp: you might want to check the home automation guys
[22:20:02] wagnerrp: they would have more experience with that sort of thing, dealing with RF based fans and lights
[22:20:25] Geminizer: wagnerrp: is that a website, or an irc group?
