okay. recently, the daily running of mythfilldatabase is driving the load on my box up, and making other things unresponsive. is there some sort of database cleansing that I should be doing periodically?

mfd making your system unresponsive sounds like disk issues from database load

nope, mythfilldatabase is just a very DB intensive process-- you can limit it to run only during certain hours if your system is that troubled by it

mfd takes a lot of power to run, but its not time sensitive, so its run at a low priority
